Haringey Civic Centre

A beacon of civic pride

Careful renovation and refurbishment will restore this landmark building to its rightful place in the heart of the community.

Haringey Civic Centre was one of the first large new build civic centres to be constructed after the Second World War. But by the time it closed its doors to the public in Spring 2020, the Grade II listed modern classic was in desperate need of some TLC.

Now the 66 year old building in the heart of Wood Green will have a new annex, high quality offices and restored civic spaces for the use of the whole community.

Refurbishment and expansion means that all the council’s staff can be brought under one roof, in a modern, flexible, and accessible environment that will support how the council wants to work as an organisation in the future as well as delivering for residents.

The Council Chamber and Committee Rooms will be used for multi-purpose meetings, training seminars and conferences. Multi-function co-work and collaboration areas will be available for the use of staff, partners and visitors.

An inner courtyard between the buildings will be a great spot for informal meetings or simply taking a break. Available to the council and guests, it can be accessed via the cafe, meeting rooms and the southside of the new Trinity building.

Other spaces in and around the buildings will be for the whole community to use and enjoy. Improvements to the surrounding landscape – including a woodland garden co-designed with local residents – will encourage everyone to make the most of their new and valuable community hub.

The London Borough of Haringey has committed to deliver a net zero-carbon borough by 2041 with all the Council’s operational buildings becoming Net Zero Carbon by 2027.

Our design has prioritised low embodied carbon materials, reducing maintenance and running costs while supporting the well-being of the buildings’ users.  Both the refurbished building and new extension will be all electric, minimise energy demands and maximise on site renewables.
