Lancaster University Engineering Two

A showcase of engineering activity

Promoting community and showcasing engineering in action, Engineering Two is a multidisciplinary facility for Lancaster University’s groundbreaking research.

Engineering Two is about bringing different engineering disciplines together, combining teaching and research facilities under a single roof. Packed full of highly complex and sensitive laboratories, the building is positioned to showcase engineering across Lancaster University’s campus and beyond.

The facade fronts onto the perimeter road, acting as a beacon for the Department of Engineering. Taking its inspiration from the monumental arches of the Victorian viaducts scattered across the Lancashire landscape, as well as that original showcase of engineering, the Crystal Palace of the Great Exhibition of 1851, the visual language of the facade references the display of engineering prowess to the world.

The building features entirely new facilities for the Department of Engineering, including a 3D lecture theatre and a three-storey general engineering lab space. These facilities will provide opportunities for new research projects and interdisciplinary collaboration across the campus and beyond.
