Goldsmiths Student Villages
A home from home
Working with Campus Living Villages, we reconfigured three student residential sites encompassing 440 rooms in New Cross and Brockley.
Across three sites, we restored and extended the existing buildings, which date from the turn of the century and the 1960s, adding new interventions to provide for growing student numbers.
We wanted to integrate the new build sections into the existing neighbourhood contexts, while also introducing contemporary design elements to enhance the locality.
Bespoke plywood joinery and a neutral palette act as a blank canvas for students to add their personal stamp without seeming institutional.
A variety of room types, including affordable cluster rooms, ensuites, and large studios in the renovated Victorian mansions, provides choices to suit all budgets and personalities.
We were keen to improve students’ sense of belonging by providing more social spaces. Each block has its own identity and community spirit with shared kitchens and amenity areas.
Adding new-build components to the existing building stock was key to improving accessibility, with step-free entrances integrated into the landscape design of the three sites to create a coherent and unified landscape strategy.
