Louisa Bowles calls for change during Parliament’s Environmental Audit Committee

On a panel with six other industry leaders, Louisa explored the best routes to achieving net zero carbon for our future building needs

Submitting evidence to the Sustainability of the Built Environment inquiry (for the Environmental Audit Committee), Louisa addressed the current practises in the construction industry and examined the challenges that architecture firms are facing, including the need for a standardised approach across the industry and mandated policy on whole life carbon reporting.

If we’re going to pursue a balanced material palette and low carbon options in them, in the UK, we need to invest in those types of manufacturing practises
A barrier we have found is that at the moment there is no centralised national database of these EPDs. Practices of our scale might have the resources to do that, but smaller practices will not. Somehow we need to collate the data and the evidence into something that is free and much more accessible.

From low carbon materials through to policies which minimise the whole life carbon impact of new buildings, you can watch the full formal meeting (oral evidence session) here: https://parliamentlive.tv/even…
