Arch Revival: Hawkins\Brown at Clerkenwell Design Week 2025
From concept to Clerkenwell Green using computational design

Commissioned by major British stone suppliers, Hutton Stone and Albion Stone, Brick from a Stone: Arch Revival, designed by Hawkins\Brown and Webb Yates, consists of a striking pair of 4 metre high freestanding, vaulted hyperbolic arches.
Each arch is crafted from a single layer of stone bricks, measuring only 102mm thick, demonstrating the material’s versatility as a load-bearing architectural product.
But how to translate the elegant design into a functioning structure?

The answer lies in computational design. Our specialist design studio, with support from Remap, developed a tool to model the exact dimensions of each brick and its position within the hyperbolic arches, which the manufacturing and assembly teams could use to construct the pavilion with mathematical precision.
The result is an installation that combines cutting-edge digital design with ancient craftsmanship, showcasing the strength, beauty, and sustainability of stone as a structural material.
