Two case studies exploring how we might safely reoccupy education buildings while assessing overall impacts to building function and occupancy.

Case study 1: Teaching spaces

Case study 1 tests some of the considerations set out within the Guidance section to a typical floor of a teaching building, comprising of open-plan seminar rooms, shared offices, and a lecture theatre. Spatial distancing procedures, one-way circulation routes and loose-furniture reconfigurations are some of the strategies applied to support a safer learning environment.

Case study 2: Scientific research buildings

Case study 2 tests some of the considerations set out within the Guidance section to a typical floor of a scientific research building, comprising of primary and secondary laboratories, offices, meeting rooms, and write-up space. Spatial distancing procedures and one-way circulation routes are some of the strategies applied to support a safer research environment.
