‘Emperor's New Housing’ explores the impact of planning regulations on London's delivery of housing. Entering the debate on housing quality and diversity, the &\also thinktank critically examines the London Housing Design Guide and the emergent idea of a ‘new London housing vernacular’. We argue that regulations create the idea of the ‘exceptional’, and that indeed new housing typologies might better meet the needs of London’s changing demographic if allowed to contravene the LHDG’s policies.
