Woodberry Down is the largest and the best known partnership between a local authority housing agency and a private developer. We are lead architects for a number of sites in phase one and phase two, developing detailed designs within the principles of the original masterplan.
The scale, layout and mix of the scheme has been established through extensive negotiation between Genesis Housing, Hackney Homes, the local residents forum and the local planning authority. In response to the availability of funding from the Homes and Communities Agency, this site is entirely made up of flats for social rent and intermediate tenure, balanced by private flats in other phases.
‘Woodberry Grove North’ is a triangular shaped site located on the northern edge of the masterplan area, adjacent to the new Skinners Academy. It is also known as 'Kick Start Site 2 (KSS2)'. We maximised the benefits of the site’s elevated position, ensuring that the majority of dwellings were dual aspect and had great views of the adjacent New River and across the Haringey Valley.
Included within the completed project was a significant element of public realm, with the introduction of a new local park and playgrounds to the west of the site.
We are unusual among Berkeley's panel of architects, in that we design schemes and obtain planning consent, and then work with the construction team to deliver the housing on site.
