The challenge of this project was integrating a commercially viable development into the constraints of the new Victoria Underground station within the City of Westminster, London.
We were appointed by London Underground, to prepare design proposals for a strategic development site created following the construction of a proposed new London Underground ticket hall beneath Bressenden Place, Westminster.
Our proposal was for an ambitious and dynamic building integrating the technical operational underground accommodation with a viable commercial building above ground, whilst also resolving the conflicting requirements of the site’s principle stakeholders with a strict local planning brief.
The building’s envelope responds to environmental conditions providing solar shading for the building’s interior by the use of a patterned interlayer within the building’s glass cladding. The interlayer becoming more opaque depending on its orientation modifying the building’s capacity to control solar gain.
