Parliament Square is a World Heritage Site and a Listed Square. Our strategy was to link this isolated central traffic island to the pavement in front of Westminster Abbey to create a new tourist destination.
The ambition for Parliament Square is that it can become the second 'World Square for London' following the lead of Trafalgar Square, offering a new public meeting place for international visitors and Londoners alike. We worked with Vogt Landscape Architects to create an exciting new public space.
In order to develop the design and convince all of the different parties that transformation of the Square was possible, we consulted with English Heritage, Westminster Council, The Royal Household, Westminster Abbey, Houses of Parliament, Transport for London, Design for London, GLA and CABE.
The project was put on hold by a change of Mayoral priorities, but is currently being reconsidered.
