The Park Royal Intensification Study strategises how to make more intensive use of one the UK’s largest and most economically successful industrial areas.
Our research-led proposals suggest that Park Royal can be intensified on a site by site basis through a range of commercially grounded development principles. This work responds to a variety of work space typologies currently found in the area as well as those future typologies that could emerge reflecting key growth sectors. These include multi-level warehousing, vertical and horizontal extensions, infill and comprehensive redevelopment, approaches we tested in consultation with businesses and developers.
- Identifies a range of design principles which can help to support intensification.
- Develops potential intensification strategies to increase employment densities and floorspace for a range of case study sites.
- An analysis of the likely uplift in employment that could be achieved across Park Royal if the principles and strategies were implemented.
“We've already started to use the findings, as a key part of our mandate is to protect, strengthen and intensify Park Royal. Due to the complexities of the site, the results from the tool have led us to approach the industrial intensification with innovation. The findings will be of significant help to OPDC in turning the evidence gathered into practical examples of intensifying land in the largest industrial area in London.”
