Hackney Community College was the largest Further Education project in the UK, when it was completed in 1988.
We worked with Perkins Ogden and Hampshire County Architects to deliver a series of buildings that were pioneering in their quality and ambition for a deprived area of East London. They gave special attention to the needs of a learning institution at the centre of a very diverse community, and to using or learning life skills and vocational training.
We converted the two Edwardian School Buildings that formed the centre piece of the Campus, into the administrative centre, language school, Students’ Union, creche, science laboratories and arts studios. Three years later we converted areas of the building into a broadcasting quality recording studio and radio station.
