UK Passivhaus Conference 2013\

Adam and Emma attended the UK Passivhaus conference last week in Milton Keynes.

The term Passivhaus refers to an advanced low energy construction standard for buildings providing excellent health and comfort conditions being both cool in summer and warm in winter with minimal heating or cooling requirements. Our regeneration scheme at Agar Grove could potentially be one of the largest Passivhaus schemes in the UK.

The day had a very practical theme and the team attended talks given by clients who had commissioned Passivhaus projects, Passivhaus designers, contractors, maintenance teams and those who are living in Passivhaus schemes.

Highlights of the day included a talk given by Jon Sear who project managed and now resides in a certified Passivhaus scheme in Lancaster. Jon’s talk described the many challenges of achieving a Passivhaus certified project, particularly achieving good air tightness and the many benefits, for example low energy bills, good indoor air quality and comfort. Other highlights included a talk given by Tomas O'Leary who provides both theoretical training and hands on practical training in a purpose built Passivhaus workshop in Ireland and is looking start similar courses in the UK.
