UK PassivHaus Conference\

Emma attended the UK Passivhaus conference last week in Stevenage.

The term Passivhaus refers to an advanced low energy construction standard for buildings providing excellent health and comfort conditions being both cool in summer and warm in winter with minimal heating or cooling requirements. Hawkins\Brown is working with Mae, Grant Associates and Max Fordham on the UK’s largest Passivhaus scheme as part of the Agar Grove regeneration in Camden.

The conference included a series of talks from Passivhaus clients, designers and contractors. Particular highlights included; Passivhaus housing commissioned by Exeter City Council, views on how far to take Passivhaus in retrofit projects, WARM’s post occupancy study comparing and contrasting predicted and measured data within housing and hearing about what it is like to actually live in a Passivhaus dwelling. It was encouraging to get updates on schemes presented at last year’s conference that are now progressing on site or completed.
