There are occasions when I am between projects and I step back from the design process and think less intensely about the studio. My mind begins to wander and I capture random thoughts into my sketchbook. Most of these thoughts are repetitions on a theme - or something nagging at my subconscious. Increasingly, when we commission a survey, the initial measurement is done with a 3D orbital scanner that generates a point cloud. It occurred to me that we could use this technology to scan draped fabric and transfer this into cast concrete panels, in order to soften an otherwise massive element of a façade.

Paired with frameless glazing and perhaps curtains on the inside, this could lead to a more feminine, romantic building.
