The finals weekend is over... what a challenge!
Teambuild is a multidisciplinary construction industry competition which gives recent graduates the experience of a real site scenario, from design and development right through to construction.
Five of our graduates took part in the competition, all making it through to the finals weekends with their multi-disciplinary teams: Blue Steel, Hestia, Vokse, Peloton & Into-change
Right from the get go, momentum and gusto were supercharged. Think smart cities, think infrastructure & masterplanning, think multidisciplinary collaboration, and excellent feedback from esteemed judges. This has been the most intense and valuable training experience I have ever come across. Imagine the construction industry’s version of the ‘The Apprentice’, but with a difference: there would be no embarrassing taxi ride home, and over just a single weekend contestants elevated themselves to higher levels of expertise, professionalism and pride.
Notably the teams with the most diverse set of skills ruled the competition. Representing 24 top construction industry companies, 11 teams competed against one another for a position in the finals. After a grueling but brilliant weekend our graduates featured in three out of the top four teams. Undeniably we left a lasting impression on the rest of the contestants, with our enthusiasm and dedication to the built environment.
Congratulations to Team Blue Steel for winning the overall prize (awarded by the Worshipful Company of Constructors), Team Hestia for winning the Procurement Strategy prize (awarded by the Worshipful Company of Chartered Architects), and Team Vokse for winning The Judges Prize.
We would also like to thank Team Build UK for organising the event. It was a great opportunity to get to know our peers better and learn some new skills.
