Harbinder Birdi appointed to the London Mayor’s Infrastructure Advisory Panel \

Harbinder has been named as one of 43 leading figures in the infrastructure and development fields who will advise the Mayor on a range of issues.

The GLA has announced the establishment of an Infrastructure Advisory Panel (IAP), which brings together a diverse pool of expertise from across the infrastructure space as part of the Mayor of London’s plans to increase representation from women; people of Black and Minority Ethnic (BAME) backgrounds; people with disabilities; LGBTQ+ Londoners. The panel will actively inform GLA’s infrastructure agenda, ensuring it focuses on the key challenges and opportunities to meet London’s needs. The membership of the panel is 30% BAME and 70% women.

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said: “In a city as dynamic as London, our infrastructure should be the envy of the world – a vital way of ensuring it’s as good as it possibly can be is to help the sector reflect the range of talent in the capital.

“That’s why I’m proud to announce the steps we’ll be taking to help increase diversity and inclusion in the infrastructure sector.

“I’m clear that your background should never be a barrier to what you can achieve – and I’m determined to do all I can to help London’s best and brightest make use of their skills across this important field.”

Harbinder himself has been actively engaged in education with a view to increase diversity in the built environment. He most recently led a workshop for for Year 6 students at St Benedict’s Junior School, challenging pupils to build a railway bridge in small groups.
