Shoko Kijima \

Shoko is passionate about engaging local communities in the built environment and design. She leads Hawkins\Brown’s involvement in the RIBA Architectural Ambassador programme, actively promoting and delivering workshops with primary and secondary schools to increase children and young people’s understanding and awareness of their built environment, so that they can confidently participate in the dialogue about the urban realm, buildings and beyond.

She has also volunteered various workshops including BUILD 2016 with Matt + Fiona in partnership with the National Trust, Open City’s Archikids Festival and the Building Exploratory to improve numeracy at KS2.

Shoko completed her Part II and Masters Conversion at the Mackintosh School of Architecture, Glasgow School of Art. Her thesis project was published in MacMag 37 and explored how narrative and time can be expressed when considering routes through cities, based on her interest in how context is experienced.
