Matt graduated from the University of Sheffield with a distinction in his Part II. His final year thesis explored the importance of an immersive understanding of site and community in architectural design and was awarded the Gold Medal at the Yorkshire RIBA awards.
Matt is interested in the role played by art, engineering, and the collaboration between different disciplines on building design. A competition win, with a small team from the university, to build a restaurant on a frozen river in Canada gave him an early opportunity to explore and experience these concepts within the immediacy of building a ‘pop-up’ structure.
Matt has maintained an interest in architectural education, in particular the process of communicating ideas, by attending project presentations with final year students at Sheffield University as a guest reviewer.
Outside work Matt’s interests include playing football and, when he gets the opportunity to head for the slopes, skiing.
