The remodeling, refurbishment and extension of the Derby Moor Community Sports College is part of Derby’s Building Schools for the Future Programme.
The existing school occupies a steeply sloping site spread out across a series of disparate and dilapidated buildings. The new Learning Barn links the existing buildings creating five inter-related learning zones linked by a new ‘learning hub’, addressing issues of physical, cultural and economic accessibility. 40% of the scheme is refurbishment and in these areas carbon emissions have been reduced by half.
The building supports the school’s vision for personalised learning with ‘learning visible everywhere’. All the internal and external spaces have been designed in collaboration with the teaching staff and students, including the choice of colours, materials, graphics, furniture and IT.
